20 March 2021 is International Happiness Day, it is apt to call upon career services professionals to come together and think deeply about your own experience of work, and to shift your career services practice to better incorporate ideas that are foundational to human flourishing and happiness.
Diminish WORK When we review our practice, does the conversation focus falls squarely within the box of work related issues? In the 21st Century World of Work, the concept of "career" is being redefined and WORK embraces all forms of work; it is no longer within paid work, but self-employment and unpaid work within the home and community too.
Focus on LIFE Individuals in past decade are gradually more motivated to find meaning in their work, in their life. As career services professionals, our practice is challenged to accompany their construction for meaning and purpose with quality interventions.

Dr Brian Hutchison
Brian Hutchison, Ph.D., LPC, CCCE is part of the Core Faculty of Clinical Mental Health Counselling at Walden University, USA. Dr. Hutchison received his doctorate degree in Counselor Education & Supervision from Pennsylvania State University and has worked as a career, school, and mental health counselor and clinical supervisor.
Dr. Hutchison is Past President of the Asia Pacific Career Development Association (APCDA), Editor of the Asia Pacific Career Development Journal, and Treasurer of the National Career Development Association (NCDA).
Brian’s scholarship is infused into three primary scholarship areas: international issues in career/ school counseling, career theory and practice integration, and counselor training/ education broadly defined. He has more than four dozen journal publications pertaining to school and career counseling theory, international career development, social justice and cross-cultural communication, and specific counseling interventions. Dr. Hutchison is a Contributing Editor for the book International Practices of Career Services, Credentialing and Training.
Important Information
Pre-work and Post-work are required for this course. There is pre reading to be completed before attending the 3.5 hours online session with Brian over Zoom platform.
